NOVELS
The brilliant Care Santos’s Media Vida (Half a Life) is one of my favourite Spanish novels of 2017, winner of the prestigious Premio Nadal.
Celda 211 (Cell 211) is Spanish journalist Francisco Pérez Gandul’s cult prison thriller from 2004. Rumours of a Hollywood remake continue to circulate. I won a John Dryden prize for my translated excerpt of this slang-driven novel in 2011.
Khimera is noir author César Pérez Gellida’s first foray into believable near-future dystopian sci-fi spy fiction with a rich vein of Slavic folklore!
SHORT STORIES
More literary suspense fiction from the ingenious Paul Pen, this time in short-story form from his collection of 13 dark tales. My translations ‘The Porcelain Boy’ and ‘Cinnamon’ earned me John Dryden prizes in 2015 and 2017.
CHILDREN’S BOOKS
My favourite Spanish children’s publisher is La Guarida. I’ve translated samples and in some cases the full text from eight of their beautiful, magical, unique picture books.
